Bullet Belts and Gun

2008-12-9 by Eric Fillion

I heard Gun for the first time nearly ten years ago. I grew up listening to various sub-genres of metal and heavy rock music and therefore found myself attracted by the cover of Gun Sight. It reminded me of early speed metal records buried deep in my collection except that the album I was holding in my hands had been released in 1969.

Gun Sight is one of two albums released by the Curtis (Gurvitz) brothers and Louis Farrell in the late 1960s. It contains some very good material (head in the clouds, drown yourself in the river) but falls short of being more than a satisfactory early seventies British rock album. I liked the music sufficiently at the time however to persist and explore the band's first effort … and I am glad I did.

The Stranglers - From Rattus to Black

2008-12-2 by Eric Fillion

I am little pressed with time at the moment so I thought I would go ahead and post something about a band that does not need much of an introduction. The Stranglers rank high in my list of all-time favorite bands. By 1978, The Stranglers had released Rattus Norvegicus, No More Heroes , as well as Black and White. Their bastardized brutal pop sound is one I find terribly appealing. Just listen for yourself.

Touring Overseas: Leaving the Rogers Behind

2008-11-26 by Eric Fillion

In just a few days Pas Chic Chic will be playing its first show in mainland Europe. It will all begin in the Netherlands at the Guess Who Festival held in the city of Utrecht. The tour will last close to three weeks and will end at the Social Club in Paris. Consult the shows section for details and a complete itinerary.

This also means that for the first time in years I will find myself beating drums that aren't mine. Now this might not seem like a very serious matter but the fact is that I have gotten very attached to my two 1974-75 Rogers kits (people close to me can attest to that fact).

2. On a different topic, we are nearing the end of November which means we are heading to Europe in a few days. Visit the shows section for details.
